Use the databases below to search for articles via keyword or topic. Links to the electronic version of the article are often available through the Find Text feature . If the article is only available in print, Find Text will give you the library's call number (location) for the journal. If the library doesn't own it, Find Text will link to and automatically fill-in an Interlibrary Loan form.

Environment Abstracts (1975+)
Contains articles from major magazines and academic journals.

Lexis Nexis Environment (1975+)
Contains environmentally related laws, Superfund records, state and federal site records, National Priority List of Hazardous Waste Sites (searchable by state).

Academic Search Premiere (1975+)
Contains articles from many disciplines, which is important for researching environmental issues, which are very interdisciplinary.

Multidisciplinary index to primary scholarly journals in the social sciences.

Population Index
Population Index is the primary reference tool to the world's population literature.

 

Toxicology/Health

HazDat
Hazardous Substance Release/Health Effects Database, is the scientific and administrative database developed to provide access to information on the release of hazardous substances from Superfund sites or from emergency events and on the effects of hazardous substances on the health of human populations.

Household Products Database
This database links over 7,000 consumer brands to health effects from Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) provided by manufacturers and allows scientists and consumers to research products based on chemical ingredients.

Toxic Release Inventory Data
EPA database that contains information on toxic chemical releases and waste management activities reported annually by certain industries as well as federal facilities. TRI Data from the Right to Know Network, 1986-2006.

TOXNET
Databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health, and toxic releases.

EnviroFacts Data Warehouse
Single point of access to select U.S. EPA environmental data.

PubMed/Medline
The most comprehensive article database for health and medical information.

Science Accelerator
Searches all of the Department of Energy's database at once.

Reading about your topic in a specialized encyclopedia, dictionary, or handbook may be one of the most effective and time saving research tips. These resources can help you define unfamiliar terms, understand the parameters of current debate in a particular area and provide you with a preliminary bibliography on the subject. CQ Researcher
